It does not count visits to the site itself. It says that the data is taken from Alexa. Perhaps even with SimilarWeb and similar services. How they work is hard to say. The first one (Alexa) most likely studies what users who have installed their application (browser plugin) do on the Internet and extrapolates this data to the entire Internet. Perhaps both of them buy information about traffic from the creators of browsers (Firefox, Opera ...), there is such a practice.
Information about traffic can be obtained not only through metrics.
