How does Google use the geo_location tag when indexing images?

I'm learning how to create an XML image map for a Wordpress site. Unfortunately, I still don’t fully understand how Google determines the shooting location: does it make sense to fill in the image: geo_location tag in the XML map, or are search robots themselves able to determine the shooting location by latitude and longitude from the EXIF photo?

I don’t know how Google can read without this tag, but the help recommends using it https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced...

if you want to be more precise, it's better to fill it out, but not fake
