How does connections work in mongodb?

I see 5 open connections in mongodb, how do they work? For example, I created a script that connects to the database and completes its work, but does not close the connection, then the connection remains hanging? what will happen to him then, will it ever close?
Is it possible to close all open connections in Mongodb?
