How does all this happen in the sphinx?

I have a site , I want to connect sphinx .
What I see so far in sfnx,
1- it takes data from the database and creates indexes in itself, right?
2- if I do not do indexing after updating the data in the database, they will not be in the sphinx indexes, since there was no indexing, right?
