How do you switch between windows: do you use desktops or what else on macOS?

I still can't get used to them, I use Сommand + tab
Most often it's PhpStorm + iTerm + Chrome.
How do you switch? The desktops didn't catch on (they seem slow when switching due to the animation)
And is there a use for them?

I expand each window to full screen. And I switch between them by swiping on the trackpad. I feel very comfortable.

On the contrary, I have taken root desktops. I switch: if with the mouse, then I set the upper left active corner; and from the keyboard - combinations Ctrl+Up[Left, Rigth, Down].
