How do you make funnels in Analytics?

Hey!
There are tasks to build funnels in terms of user types (roughly speaking, a segmented funnel by user types). In mixpanel and similar systems, this is done out of the box using parameters, in GA this is not possible (unless you use advanced trading or premium).
I use for this segments of sequences by user (from the parameters "immediately before" so that adjacent links do not fall.")

How do you like this method? Which one do you use for complex funnels?

I don't use advanced trading and prem.
I use dimensions to segment users
All buttons are marked with events with dimensions
After payment, events are also sent using the measurement protocol.
To save amounts when paying, I use eventValue
Then I build a funnel for events
