We are developing a portal where users can create certain groups. There was a dispute, it was originally planned to make such a url address: site.ru/mygroup, but there are problems with conflicts with other url addresses of the site. There is an idea to transfer the name of the groups to subdomains: mygroup.site.ru Actually, how do search engines treat such a case? Which option is better: mygroup.site.ru or site.ru/group/mygroup?

Search engines generally don’t care if you have one domain or a cloud of subdomains.
for your task - subdomains are more convenient.
