How do I submit my article to GitHub?

Wrote my short article. I would like to publish it somewhere on the Internet for free reading, but first take care of preserving copyright (I mean just preserving the fact that I am the author, and not someone else).
I decided to put it on github, because a couple of times I saw large books being written together there.
What is the best license to release it under?
And how to arrange it?

Isn't it better to put it on a thematic site? The same habr / gyktimes, if the article is about IT.
Pro github is not a tool for publishing articles, but a tool for collaborative development. And with books, what you mentioned is, firstly, a very narrow example, and secondly, it was made specifically for the purpose of writing together.
