The solution suggests itself, install both Docker and Git on the machine. It is obvious, everything is clear with him.
Is it possible to install Git (or is it already installed?) directly into the image, and manage versions from there?

It is possible, but this is obviously a bad approach.

That's what I would do. And this is the right approach.
