How cross-browser should the layout be?
What is the actual level of cross-browser compatibility required when creating most sites?
Here is my practice layout for IE11, Firefox, Opera 25 (after the layout in Opera, I corrected only the footer that went wrong in Firefox).
Crossbrowser compatibility here: terrible, average or normal?

There are two types of thinking: how I want and how the customer wants.
You may want to have support for the latest versions of browsers, and the customer can order such a layout so that it works perfectly even in ie6. And vice versa.
You need to act on the situation:
Something like that ;)

Each has its own requirements. Usually there is no such thing as "cross-browser". There are pens on pixel-perfect layout, but as with your implementation, the problem is font smoothing in different browsers.
In general, they require the latest two versions of the browser (current and previous) and now in most cases IE9+. As for the fonts - if it looks normal (this parameter is evaluated by the designer or the customer, or both), then you should not bother. only with indents you have something.
Some problems with padding and margins are not good. This should not be, I think. And the fact that the fonts are different is garbage. Although there are customers who like to find fault.
However, if pixelperfecting starts, I try to refuse such a customer or ask him to look for a separate layout designer (usually I do only the server part, but often they ask for layout as well).
I myself check the layout under the latest FF, Chrome (actually under Opera 27) and SUDDENLY Opera 12.6. At the same time, I immediately warn the customer when they ask for layout that I will not check and edit under ie. Under no (I stupidly do not have it). Oddly enough, many agree.
I dare say that there is no longer a browser like Opera.
Test on Chrome, Firefox and IE11 (and preferably Safari on iPad). The quality of the layout is average. Something is wrong with the indentation. They were probably not reset before layout (normalize.css).
As for the pixel-for-pixel layout approach, this is heresy.
