How convenient is Linux for a coder?

Yes, this question has already been asked, but for a long time, I wonder what is there with Photoshop, Zeplin and the atom editor, does it still work there? I heard from some bloggers about the miracle optimization of Linux, but how true is this? Is it possible to work on it on this bucket with 4 gigs of RAM , taking into account the fact that I will always have atom, zeplin, photoshop, google, explorer open?
And what is the best way to do it: put Linux on a virtual machine, and leave Windows, or vice versa? I will need to test the work of sites in the explorer.
Be sure to say what kind of Linux you are talking about!

In your condition, the unsolvable problem is Photoshop. But now a lot of people are designing in Figma.
In other terms, modern Linux is a fairly good working environment, apart from minor interface glitches that can be annoying, but do not interfere with the work in essence.
What was written here against Linux, or tried it 5-10 years ago, or just heard from someone.

No miracle optimization, even if there was one, would make Photoshop, running in a Windows virtual machine on top of any Linux, faster.
Don't be fooled, buy more RAM.

I have been sitting on NIX for more than 7 years. I like the system, everything is ok. As for the layout... Photoshop somehow didn't work for me, I use the purchased avocode. Now I use xubuntu at work and gentoo at home. And there and there xfce4. It does not look very aesthetically pleasing if you take into account the 10-ku. As for Windows programs, there is wine there, if you need to get confused. 4GB of RAM is ridiculous. At least i3 and at least 8 operatives, this didn’t go anywhere.

It will not be possible to work on that bucket.
Firstly, 4 GB of RAM is very small (one FS will eat so much and ask for more). Now the absolute living wage is 8, and 16+ is recommended.
Secondly, cheap laptops have catastrophically slow disks.
And it's better to assemble a desktop with a normal (and not 1366*768!) monitor for similar money.

I have been a Linux and Windows user for 10 years. Layout - 20 years. You won't be able to use Photoshop on Linux, even under wine. However, more and more designers are now using sketches. There is Sympli with Figma, Avocode, Zeppeline, which are under Lin.
I have a laptop with 4GB of RAM running Mint 19.2. You can work, but very uncomfortable. Phpstorm, for example, is a rather gluttonous IDE, but Sublime is enough for layout.
If we consider a pure layout, without tie-in to engines, without using composer and npm, then there is absolutely no difference what OS. However, with the complication of Linux, certain things begin to win in terms of the nativeness of using applications.

From the category of questions: "which is better, cucumbers or tomatoes?". Let's start with the fact that writing a design in 2k19 in fsh is already bad manners, I advise you to drive such designs that send psd layouts. As for Windows/Linux, well, you don't work with backing, so it doesn't matter what you sit on, both axes are good, both have advantages and disadvantages. In Linux, for example, you will need to steam up and set everything up for yourself, but when you do this, your system will have no equal in convenience, Windows, on the contrary, you need to bathe less, but there are few opportunities for customizing the workspace. Those who drown for one thing, I do not advise you to listen to them, you will only get bad. Here you need to decide what is best for you, yourself.
In general, I will give professional advice: sit on whatever you want, just buy an AWS cloud, Google Cloud or Azure, all the code and all the loads will spin there, you will only need to open the browser and your cloud text editor, the same vscode allows this. And the payment is hourly everywhere, a question of fifty rubles per month. For example, I'm sitting on Windows and with a debian working environment, you can do the opposite.

I have been using linux mint for 3 months. When working avocode, vscode, nodejs, gulp, chrome, firefox.
4 GB is not enough. I bought myself another 4 GB die

Definitely not in relation to working machines, the most voracious OS in this regard (popular distributions).
Now at least IMHO 16GB of RAM. Because the assembly of the frontend, for example, on my last project just wants 6GB. And for comfortable work, in order not to think about memory, I need already from 24GB.
And if you use Photoshop, then you better look towards Windows and Mac.
