How can you make a 3D model from an image?

Good afternoon. There is an image of a fingerprint and the task is to print a three-dimensional image of all lines on a 3D printer. Tell me how to make a three-dimensional model based on the picture.

In almost any 3D editor, it is possible to make a model based on a height map. This is just your case. Usually this option is called displacement or height map.
Here's how it's done in Blender https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnrrsVzkqnc

For this particular task, it is better to use ArtCam, which is a tool for creating engravings for CNC sawing. But this model can be printed on the printer. Enter ArtCam in the search and it will immediately become clear what it is about.

If we are talking about a monochrome image, you can vectorize a bitmap source, getting a profile for extrusion.
