How can I modify the route that the Google Maps API gives me for my application?

I want to create an application for people with special needs. There are some places in my city that such people cannot pass through. Therefore, I want my application to give a route on the map, given similar places. How can this be done using the 3rd party Maps API? Not necessarily Google, I can consider other options. Thanks in advance
