How can I implement the same alignment on Flexbox as Masonry (Isotope, etc.)?

Everyone knows about this jQuery thing that makes great pinterest style tiles.

Can Flexbox completely replace it? The main advantage of Masonry compared to Flexbox is the ability to line up blocks with random tiles OUTSIDE of the height. And Flex (and regular floats) rely on the highest height in a horizontal line.
