How can I customize the sample app to fit my look?

Hello.
Based on this tutorial ( josephndungu.com/tutorials/gmail-like-chat-applica... , I want to make a messaging system in my application.
However, in my conditions, this option (small chat) is not suitable. Ultimately, I want to see the page ( the address of which will be domename.com/messages or domename.com/conversations) on which there will be all dialogs and messages, as in facebook
Please give advice on how to implement this.
