How do web studios accept payments for their projects? Let's take as an example an average project, which will take about six months, let's say. Do they get big pay? Or in stages?

as it is written in the contract about payment - so they pay. (and they make it up as it is convenient for the management. Well, they can still discuss with the client and come to a decision that will suit both parties)
again, and as much as the manager wants, they will set the price tag as much. (usually calculated by man-hours)
