It would be better to take a CMS specially sharpened for commerce. October CMS is an interesting thing and plugins for it, judging by the documentation, are not so difficult to write, but if you want to expand the functionality, then it will be more difficult to find a developer for October CMS, and even more so for OctoShop, than for the same OpenCart. Another plus of specialized CMS is a bunch of plugins, so you may not have to hire anyone.
