Has anyone else had livereload fail on gulp browser-sync?

After updating npm in the node_modules folder, there is no longer one folder for each module, but a huge mess. Maybe it's an update.
In general, the thing is this - the black window with messages like "Connected to browser sync" has ceased to appear, livereload does not work, and if you go to the UI on port 3001 and look at Current Connections - it's empty there.
And on old projects everything is fine, can anyone come across this?
