Has anyone converted raid1 to raid0 for a root partition?

If we are talking about software RAID (mdadm), then RAID1 can be converted to RAID5, including the degraded one. In RAID0 it is impossible to alter. For example, RAID1 of two disks can be converted into a degraded RAID5 of 3 disks (one disk will be missing).
