Hard drive with a virus?

What happens if a hard drive with a virus is connected to a new computer or laptop? I have a hard drive with a virus (320gb hard drive). It has a virus that slows down the speed of work (that is, since this laptop is very slow), I can’t even draw in paint without lags. And in the near future I plan to assemble a computer for 50,000 rubles (on ryzen 5 3500X and with 1650 GAMING) I want to install this hard drive (but I still buy it for 500GB) can I do it at least on another laptop and without infecting it ?

There will be a drive connected to a computer or laptop.
Will I be able to do this at least on another laptop without infecting it?
It is not the computer that is infected, but the operating system.

And what's with the virus? The laptop has a hard drive - it must be slow.
You need to install an SSD for it to work fast.

A virus is a program, the program runs in the environment for which it was created. the program cannot start itself, therefore, at the first start, the virus provides itself with further loading with one of the many options. Under any OS, the easiest option to protect yourself is to use an account with minimal access rights. without the right to overwrite system files.
