GUI application in python\PyQt?

Good day to all.
You need to develop an application in Python, in particular using PyQt.
A kind of wrapper for a large number of files.
An electronic manual for the textbook is being created, it will contain many files
(one file for each issue).
The principle of operation should be as follows: open the application, then select the desired category, then the desired number.
When you click on the number button, a third-party file opens - directly the number itself.
It is necessary that it be opened, and not read or edited, which is done in tutorials with txt files.
The file extension is neither txt nor picture. I pressed the button - the project was opened in a third-party program.
The question is already hackneyed, but for the life of me, I can’t find the binding of the button to the normal file.
Advise how you can solve this problem - I did not dig up such information on the Internet.
