Grid layout on Flex or without grid?

Hello
everyone, I have a question.
Do you need to type on a grid or can you do it without a grid?
Studied FlexBox, know Bootstrap.
I see a lot of layouts that do not display the grid.
How to type them up, without a grid or turn on the grid through the settings?
I apologize in advance if I roughly described the situation)
Thank you all)

You can make up without any grids - the grid is needed for standardization, if the project is large and there are many different blocks, then the grid will come in handy. + depends on the specific design.

Well ... WapSter correctly drew attention to the root of the question, why do we need a grid at all. And it is needed in order to make it easy to type elements and arrange their structure. Columns, by the way, are not a grid, they are columns, a grid is formed along with rows, forming modules.
There are a great many of them, for centerfold publications (yes, on the web), for example, I am impressed by the 9 by 9 grid (grid, yes, not just columns), there are two pieces per screen (classic from print).
And therefore, in any case, you will be laying out on a grid, this is the essence of the web, columns and lines, maybe now it seems to you that somewhere without it, this is not at all the case. It's just that you probably didn't see it behind absolute positioning, floating elements, etc.
