Elementary, starting from the refusal to use coding standards and accepted programming norms (best practice), solid principles, the invention of your own "bicycles"

Two signs: the code is hard to understand, the code is hard to maintain (change).
There is also a third "as if" sign: the code is inelegant, but here each developer has his own concept of elegance, so I would not pay much attention to it.
