Google Sheets: How to access them without importing data into another sheet?

If I understand correctly, the IMPORTRANGE function copies data from other tables to the current one.
Is it possible not to display the data at all, that is, not to import it into the current one, but simply to access it, for example, to count rows?
Problem following: it is a lot of the data and it is necessary to divide into some tables. In one table there will be data that I just copy there, and in another I plan to carry out calculations (the number of rows that match the criteria, graphs, etc.)
If possible, I would like to see an example of how, for example, to divide Row A5 by row B5 from another table in the current one.

Use the IMPORTRANGE function.
And, yes, you misunderstood.
