Gitlab or Bitbucket?

Why do most white papers advise using Bitbucket and not Gitlab for private repositories? Despite the fact that the gitlab functionality is richer (or am I mistaken?).

We moved to beatbucket because gitlab is much slower. Also, a lot of the functionality that it provides is not required in 90% of cases.
In addition to this, before the gitlab was often lying and there was no access to the repositories at all.
We have been hosting on beatbucket for half a year already - the flight is excellent!

1. Don't you confuse GitHub with GitLab? They are VERY different services. Although both there (and on BitBucket too) there is git, but these are different services. But bitbucket is similar to github. But GitLab is fundamentally different from them.
2. In the case of a closed project - BitBucket gives some free closed reps. GitHub and GitLab - only for money, do not want to pay - will be public.

I'll put in my 5 kopecks)
both services are good. now GitLab has evolved and is much faster. And yes, projects can be posted for free.
I personally use both, bitbucket for my own projects and experiments, and gitlab for freelance projects. gitlab is a little nicer for me in terms of interface.
