Gateway in a virtual machine?

There is a configured gateway on the fryaha, in order to save space, electricity and just to free up the computer, I decided to drive it into a virtual machine in xubuntu. Tell me, is this generally normal, then that the gateway will spin in the virtual machine?

I generally have 5 virtual machines in bubuntu and one gate on debian accepts connections and distributes them over the internal network to these virtual machines. already 3 years. Very convenient.
