FTP breaks and ssh connection how to determine where the problem is?

I work in Putty every 5 minutes, the connection disappears and I have to reconnect. FTP also often breaks, but there WinSCP itself restores the connection right there. How to determine where the problem is - is it with the Internet or on the server side? And if on the server side, what could it be?
