Frontend or backend?

Good day, friends! I would like to clarify some points about these two directions. Does front-end development require any knowledge of algorithms, data structures, mathematical skills? Is it difficult to move from front-end to back-end? And which is better, freelancing or working in an office?

Layout and simple scripts like "drop-down list" do not require anything particularly complicated.
But there is also a complex front-end - maps, some cool graphics with special effects, games.
Freelancing gives you some freedom. I wanted to - I worked in the country, I wanted to - I went with a laptop to Thailand. But you have to look for customers and orders on your own. You have to force yourself to get off the couch and work.
There is some stability in the office. Orders come to you "from above", and all that remains is to work. Day by day, on schedule .
If possible, it is better to start in the office. Live communication with colleagues and mentors will give a good boost of experience.
