Freelancing from scratch?

Hello . Together with a fellow student, we would like to freelance with the help of web development. So far, only the basics of Python are known. The teacher advised me to learn MongoDB + Django. What can you advise in order to get the opportunity to freelance as soon as possible? Perhaps something from the literature, or from personal experience. And how much time will it take to study the database, which can be used on the same ODesk to earn about $200/month? We have about 20-30 hours that could be devoted to this during the week.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

MongoDB

Get that thought out of your head. Take PostgreSQL or, at worst, MySQL. Mongu can be used as an additional tool, but by no means as the main one. This drastically limits the developer's options and increases complexity for most tasks.
In general, your biggest problem will be with getting your first drafts. Will have to wait. In the meantime, you are waiting - try, do something for yourself and preferably post it on github and all that.
Well, I recommend reading something on project management, although I think it will be superfluous for the first orders.

Go to the same Odesk, and spend a couple of hours to read the list of tasks, noting what they are asked to do.
Thus, you yourself will find the answer to your question in a detailed and detailed form.

I join completely.
I also advise you to learn more about HTML / CSS / JS + basic server settings (for Django, this is at least nginx / Apache + wsgi server (for example gunicorn) + MySQL / PostgreSQL).
Literature around the full on the Internet. For Django, I can recommend Python Web Development
with Django by Jeff Forcier, Paul Bissex, Wesley Chun (the book is quite old, but many things are still relevant) and the Django
Definitive Guide by Adrian Golovaty.

IMHO.
There are "popular" and "promising" technologies.
1. It is impossible not to study promising technologies and expect to feed all your life with the help of popular ones.
2. It is impossible not to know popular technologies and hope to live on some promising ones.
In this case:
php, mysql - popular technologies
python, mongo - promising

There are a lot of manuals for Django, including those from developers. Study. Well, programming itself in general. And yes, you won’t be able to make money quickly on oDesk. It will be long and rather tedious.
