Some install themselves on the server. And I'm not talking about organizations, but about simple programmers or freelancers who install the basic version of Gitlab. What for? Why not use their site?

Another thing - if he stores the code, in the same place where he develops it, there is not such a frail risk that, for example, if the server closes, then everything will be lost.
in this regard, github / gitlab can hypothetically provide an order of magnitude better infrastructure.
