It turned out that the application had the "Sandbox" mode enabled.
Turned it off and it worked :)

As far as I remember, in order to interact with the VKontakte or Facebook api, the user must allow your “application” to receive any user information. This is done through pseudo authorization via api (http://developers.facebook.com/docs/authentication/).
Up to this point, the api contains either emptiness or default entries.
