SRE, Site Reliability Engineering, is an engineering profession that aims to make systems work reliably. The word "site" is used in a broad sense and includes ensuring the reliability of all logical levels of the system.
SRE, if my memory serves me, originated in Google. They arose to ensure the reliable operation of a large number of services.
The "Bible of SRE" is a book published by Google (available for free here: https://landing.google.com/sre/book.html It includes many practices, techniques and philosophical statements that SREs use in their daily work. I own and re-read places until understanding.
It must be understood that SREs are developers with deep systems administration skills and a very strong psyche, because they are at the forefront of systems and their job is to ensure uninterrupted availability of services around the planet, 24/7.
