Does the browser on Android 2.2 support WAP/WML?

According to the user's feedback, the
wap-page is not displayed correctly on the HTC Gratia device running Android 2.2 OS - "there is no formatting - everything is transmitted in plain-text with tags in it."
The page is made up in valid WML 1.1, headers are returned by the server: "text/vnd.wap.wml"
Everything is displayed correctly on "regular" phones 3-5 years ago.
In the description of HTC Gratia on the manufacturer's website, I could not find any mention of web standards support.
Therefore, the general question is whether the browser as part of Android 2.2 supports WAP / WML technologies?
