Does React work in IE8?

I see an official article that talks about the end of support for IE8.
Ok, stop support, what's next? Does the latest version of the library work in the old browser?
I'm about to do a project and don't know if it's worth learning React given that I'm still messing around with IE 8

The article clearly states that as of v15 they don't support IE8, if you need support use v0.14.*

Nevertheless, bugs are fixed for some reason (the last item in this block), so it seems to work anyway.
