Does it make sense to take an SSL certificate for a non-commercial resource?
There is a non-commercial blog . They advised me to buy a certificate so that the site was https. I kind of don’t see the point in this, since I don’t pursue commercial goals, but I want to promote the blog. I'm leaning towards the free version.

Why pay if you can get an ssl certificate for free? Especially if the resource does not make a profit? Not logical
There is no need to buy. The aforementioned Let's Encrypt will be enough for you. But switching to HTTPS is a must. This will make a big difference in the long run when it comes to SEO and the user experience of Google Chrome in the first place.
I launch new sites immediately with https. I am using a free certificate.
