I can also advise - after a cursory reading of such books - to look for solutions to specific problems. Say you need to remove duplicate data? Google "excel remove duplicates", and here it is, your luck. This is much more effective than trying to shove the unimpressible into the brain.
The answers are often found on specialized sites, where, by the way, you can learn a lot of interesting things if you click on related topics.
