Do you need a simple DMS (document management system) or PHP file storage?
Good afternoon.
The following task was set.
Create a system for storing documents on the site. The system must have documents closed from all (password access) and open. Documents (files, both text and graphics) must have a description. Interface in Russian, installation on shared hosting (masterhost), PHP script with an open license, easy search.
Time - 1 day, with all my desire I will not have time to write it from scratch.
Have you seen anything similar? Tell me what else to see.

Owncloud is fine.
If you need it in a browser, then try something like joomla. In general, any CMS can do. The main thing is to describe the task more precisely.
Either way, you can't do it in one day. Unless it's Owncloud
The first thing that comes to mind is owncloud.org/ - it's a little more than required, but perhaps additional features will come in handy.
We made it based on WordPress.
For those who are not picky, it will go out of the box.
If you need additional functions such as versioning, then there is a WPDR plugin, it adds different features.
This solution has disadvantages, which are a continuation of its own advantages.
Key pluses: it is developed easily and anywhere. Quite nimble out of the box. Can be extended and integrated with anything.
There is experience in implementing such projects both in small companies for 10 people and in offices for 1000 employees with a distributed network of offices.

These are not competitors with ownCloud, but rather a mutual complement. One of the differences is that in WP one document can be placed in several folders at once.
Immediately minus, if there are a lot of folders, then standard mechanisms will not be enough and you will have to add them. In a large project, we have already gone through this. They took the component and rewrote it so that it would work normally with a large nesting of folders. It turned out something similar to Google Drive.
