Do you have a custom domain?
“ I want to buy it. Explain why I need it? » ©
This is a non-technical question.
I don't know how things are in the domain industry, but I registered my last name in the COM (as in the most popular) and RU (where I live) zones. And already the final subdomain name.surname.ru is used for redirecting to the social network, as well as [email protected] as a personal mailbox. I prefer RU, COM is used as an alias.
Do you have a personal name domain?
In what areas and how is it used?

I had golovanov.ru, and some guy pestered me - sell it, sell it.
I sold it and registered golovanov.net
There is nothing there yet, including no Golovanovs...
But once in my life I felt like a cybersquatter :)
there is, but not with a name, but with a nickname. in the ru zone. I use so far (for many years i.e.) only for mail.
My last name is exotic and rare at the level of Ivanov and Kuznetsov, so you don’t have to think about a nominal domain.
There are first 4 letters of the surname.ru, used to be used for mail and gills. Now they are on the gmyl, but I don’t know why the domain itself, I keep it as a family heirloom :)
Was, probably supported for 8 years.
It hasn't been extended yet.
I don't see the point.
There is
a surname.com I use [email protected] for mail and for sending large files to someone.
During last year's campaign for the free distribution of domains.rf, I took my-surname.rf. It
is used almost in no way - hands do not reach.
I don’t have a domain (because it was registered with a namesake), but the namesake gave out mailboxes to everyone for free, which I sometimes use
The surname is not rare, so the popular zones were already occupied. I registered for myself the domain name-surname.ru/.com , during the opening of the .me zone, I registered my surname.me for myself . Last name.ma would have been ideal , with ma being initials, but the zone doesn't allow that.
There are a couple of nickname domains for nickname registrations and other stuff.
There is. But in view of the incredibly complex surname, just nickname.su (the rest of the zones, alas, are occupied).
I use it for mail, transfer of large files (the script automatically uploads to the server and copies to the buffer a link like get.domain/name_of_file.ext ).
I used to upload pictures to pic.domain and leave them on the forums. But then it somehow faded away. I stopped sitting on the forums.
Due to a temporary, but long-term, change of location, recently a non-technical blog for friends began to be maintained. =)
There is a surname.com. I use for a personal blog, and also sometimes mail like [email protected]
Yes, I put a stub on the site, and attached the mail of the form [email protected] to Google Apps and have been successfully using it as the main one for several years now.
There is my nickname .ru - the home server is hooked up via samba and I use it as a personal file dump so as not to climb all sorts of crap: they have restrictions (size, quantity, weight), often require a subscription, and other dregs.
If you need to quickly post something, just transfer it to a network drive in Explorer and give a link like mooov.ru/file_name.
Incredibly comfortable.
surname.net because ru and com were occupied by namesakes. I use only for mail first name @ last name
Convenient and easy to remember.
Initials.name
Yandex mail and jabber from the first letter of the name, short and convenient. There is nothing on the website yet. I'm thinking of making a business card, although, of course, I don't want to burn personal data. Previously, there was a blogspot blog attached, but scored on it.
I have the letter "Sch" in my last name, which has a very ambiguous spelling. I remember when our family received passports for the first time - all three had it differently. Now they have unified it, but if we take the correct transliteration (Щ = shch), then the domain is free everywhere ... but actually who needs it.
If the shortest option is sh, then surname.com and surname.ru were occupied by namesakes. Sam registered surname.net. Familia.ru then appeared at the auction and was bought by me (for 600 rubles or so). I'm too lazy to make another site. For mail, it is also inconvenient to use - the letters are ambiguous. So, they are still hanging in the piggy bank. You never know, I will run for president - they will come in handy)
And so, 1 question on Habré provoked another rise in sales of domain names in the surname format. * :)
Surname in ru and rf. I use the first one to distribute my software and a small web service. I haven't figured out what to do with the second one yet.
There is in the .ru zone with a surname, in .info - with a nickname.
On the blog in .ru I occasionally write posts on it/qa-topics, on .info - all sorts of things
name-surname.de
is also only for transferring heavy files and for testing any crap
Since I have had a personal website for a long time, I have already managed to change several domains (I am growing up, my views and interests are changing).
And now I just have a nominal domain . I like it, because it's very nice to feel that the namesakes will not take away. True, I also wanted to take ru, but it turned out to be full.
In addition to the main zone, I also registered in some free ones (co.cc, .tk) - not for the sake of serious use, but just to be mine :)
Was. There hung a business card site and mail. But this year it did not renew. In two years, only 200 people came to the site. 90% of them by signature in the mail. I decided that it's better to just put an acc on linkdin in the signature.
At one time, messages flashed on the network - register, but register a domain for a surname, otherwise you will regret it later. Registered, the year was wasted, and even now it is not very popular. Although, on the other hand, a family domain will not be superfluous, especially for those who do not hide under a nickname on the Internet all their lives. In extreme cases - a business card, resume, portfolio, blogs.
I thought about it, but my last name is not very short and does not translate well into English. And I didn’t find what it was for, I don’t have to hand out business cards with a name at work. Because on the network, I usually try to call all accounts “Damaks”, if not busy, then I made myself a business card site on the damaks.me domain . However, I decided to leave the mail on @li.
There are two with nicknames, in .net. Sometimes I go there with the feeling of “Oh_O what is this, I haven’t been here for a long time.” Sometimes they even write to the mail, gmail picks up letters from there.
We need it mainly to upload a demo, show how something looks, and for contacts, so that I can somehow find who needs it.
There is also one with the nickname v.rf - I check on it the correctness of working with this very zone.rf.
I registered with a nickname - there is an old blog, and with a phone number - I have had it for 15 years, I use it for work. It is very convenient to dictate, and the client has both the website and the phone at hand
In the .net zone, com and ru are busy. In the .rf zone, I made a redirect to a site in the .no zone. Convenient for sending large files to friends and work, I use mail, I made a business card with one word - first name @ last name. no, who are curious, they can go to the site and see contacts or write a letter.
