Do I need to summarize material from a book on programming?

Is it advisable to briefly summarize the material covered from the book, or is it better to just read the book and reinforce it with practice?

The answer is completely individual. It all depends on how your memory is arranged - someone works best with visual memory, someone with audio. I know that the motor works best for me - while still studying at the institute, I wrote a spur (cheat sheet) for each exam, but for the entire time of study I used this technology only once and then, at an absolutely non-core exam. But when writing, or rather - in its process - the material was fixed in the head for a long time. And he wrote it by hand - firstly, there were no computers then, and secondly, he later noticed that typing on the keyboard does not give the same effect.
Therefore, even now, sometimes, when I read or study something new, I make a small note in a notebook (physical, not MS Notepad :-) ). And even though I will never open it later, I will definitely remember it better. Unfortunately, I notice that today's students do not even know how to take lecture notes - some record on the recorder, some take pictures from the blackboard, but very few people write on their own. In my opinion, this is not a matter of technology - namely, a lack of skills. And in particular, and in this - the inability to independently make "squeeze" from what they see or read - there is one of the reasons for the decline in the quality of education.
In general - I would recommend making such recordings, but no matter who would advise something here - you need to "listen" to your own brain and understand how it is easier for him to work with the material.
