The law requires, but the choice is still yours, depending on the method of obtaining the amounts and their volume.
Remember that IP is not just taxes, but also a bunch of paper problems.

if it is not you who sells, but the store, you receive an author's fee. I don't see the need to open a legal entity for this. The question is, if you pay taxes, what format of taxation will be more convenient for you.
1. 13% as an individual.
2. IP 6% plus all sorts of social contributions for 30 thousand per year + bank commissions for account maintenance + 1% over some amount there per year.
3. LLC 6% from sales or 15% from the difference between buy and sell on the simplified tax system and solving issues of how to withdraw money from the company (through a mountain of taxes), through dividends according to my 9% of the withdrawn amount.
4. I don’t consider the format with VAT due to a bunch of requirements and taxes, you don’t need it at all.
5. UTII and Patents for electronic sales do not apply, so it also disappears. Although you can double-check according to OKVED 52.61.2 (if sales will be carried out on your behalf and funds will be credited directly to you, and not through an agent).
And yes, you still need to understand how the money will be credited to the account, if it is a currency for a legal entity, it will be a hassle with the bank’s currency control, you need to find out from them in detail, they will enlighten you about the transaction passport if you can safely look for another way.

You need to open only if you want to reduce the tax from 13% to 6%. If the income for the year reaches ~ 300k, then contributions to the funds will be fully deducted from the amount of taxes, and they will not need to be paid. If it does not reach, you will have to pay partially.

It is difficult to open an IP, especially for a person who does not have a legal basis. A lot of paperwork, and if it doesn’t take off, you will also have to suffer with the closure of the company.
Try first as an individual. The legislation of the Russian Federation allows this, the main thing is to pay the annual tax (it's very simple - submit an income declaration and pay). And as soon as you feel that things have gone well, you can always turn to a competent specialist for help with opening an IP. And this is the right way, because well-written documentation is the key to the absence of problems in the future. And it’s better to have an LLC, so as not to risk your own property :)

Your software has nothing to do with steam, steam is a normal intermediary in the sale of goods, and you are the main seller, you receive a monetary reward, i.e. are engaged in commercial activities. In turn, any commercial activity without registration in the Russian Federation is prohibited.
I did not work with Steam, but I believe that there is a non-contractual sale and a contractual one. The second is legal, the first is not. Without an IP, you have no prospects; with an IP, you have the opportunity to declare yourself as a serious software supplier and cooperate with other companies, register a brand, and so on.
I read above and see that everyone is afraid of some kind of taxes ... Why be afraid then ??? You are not being robbed of all your money!
If you are not going to spend profits through a current account, start working on the simplified tax system at 15%, where you don’t have to pay anything with a profit of up to 300 tr. Sales will go, someone else will want to cooperate with you, switch to the simplified tax system of 6% (once a year you can change taxation).
If you really work for the future, you want to be heard, then you should still open an IP.
