Do I need to create a partition on mounted disks?

Question for the gurus.
There is a Linux server on which the web server is running. User data is stored on a separate mounted drive.
Question: The user data disk is formatted in ext4 without first creating partitions on it (that is, inserting a new disk and running mkfs.ext4). How acceptable is this approach and what kind of rake can come out?

Just like that, it will not work to plug the disk into another system - it will swear that it cannot read the partition table.
There may be a performance penalty, since when creating sections, their beginnings and ends are chosen in the most optimal way.
Loss of flexibility due to the inability to maneuver sections - you can not just reduce this section in order to add another one.
Other rake is not expected.
