Do I have the right to create an analogue of Montserrat with Cyrillic support?

I want to make a free Cyrillic font that would become an analogue of Montserrat, make the font free. I don’t understand anything about this, but I think that the best way to learn something is to start with a real and interesting task for you. The question is, what about rights? Suppose the letter M in Latin is the same as in Cyrillic, if I just copy it from Montserrat, will this be considered plagiarism? Is it possible to somehow settle this with the author of Montserrat, or is it easier to change this letter a little so that you can’t find fault?

Montserrat is distributed under the Open Font License.
In short, you can copy letters from it to yourself under the following conditions:
1. A derived font cannot have the same or similar name;
2. It cannot be sold for money;
3. It must be distributed under the same license.
If you want to make the Cyrillic alphabet specifically for the original Montserrat, you need to negotiate with the author of the original. According to this scheme, for example, the Cyrillic alphabet of the Raleway font is sawn - there are authors of the original and there are Russian dudes who deal with the Cyrillic part.
But! Considering this

I don't understand any of this
- no need.
