Displaying a product card (item): modal or new window?

Situation: there is some catalog (catalog of services, online store or something from the field of e-commerce).
Does it make sense to display the catalog item card as a modal window (as photos on vk.com are displayed)? Or are users more familiar with the standard view (card on a new page), and modal windows will cause inconvenience?

If the former, are there any examples of such sites?

The modal window is suitable for impatient users who click on the "quick view" button. The rest will be interested in the product card on a separate URL and page.

1. A potential buyer visits your website (http://inetmagazin.com/).
2. Goes to the catalog (http://inetmagazin.com/catalog/)
3. Sees something interesting, a person clicks on the product, shows it in the modal window (left illustration in the picture)
4. The buyer wants to ask a friend for a product, copies the address bar (http://inetmagazin.com/catalog/product3/) and sends via Skype
5. His friend visits this link and sees the page (right illustration in the picture)

In a new window, the user himself will open if he wants.
Modality should be avoided whenever possible.
There are situations where they fit well, such as showing an enlarged product photo. At the same time, the user expects such a situation, because the link is titled something along the lines of "Enlarge Image".
IMHO, a short summary right on each list item would be nice.
