Database design

Hello.
Actually, the subject is the topic of my thesis. To be more specific - "development of an automated control system for a database of an industrial enterprise."
I decided to ask here, because I am sure that there is an appropriate audience here.
I have one idea: to make a DB SU that will show the current state of the sensors. And a script that will interrogate all sensors. For example, upon reaching a certain limit / minimum of indications, notify the operator about this (about a violation of those processes).
Can someone tell me if I'm thinking right? Or do you have any ideas about this?
