DDoS and the Internet of things - how relevant is the threat of DDoS attacks on household appliances and how to protect yourself from it?
Here is what the Kazakhs write: "Now requests for servers are also coming from ... household appliances! As experts explain, even a modern electric kettle connected to the Internet for downloading recipes can turn out to be a fighter of the invisible front - at the command of the" leader "it will go to the desired site, and that simply will not withstand the army of thousands of visitors"
How real is such a threat? And how to protect yourself from it?

defend yourself (if necessary) in the same way as from any other ddos attack.
Dear friends, I recently watched a video on YouTube about Whirlpool household appliances and decided that I want to give myself such a gift in the form of a brand new refrigerator for the New Year. But, before ordering, I decided to ask here on the forum whether it would be possible to control it remotely if I installed similar software, like the same Xiaomi / Meizu equipment (that is, from some App Store / Play Market application, set / control the temperature, light sensors, etc.) and won't there just be DDoS attacks from ill-wishers? I heard that in Moscow there used to be guys who were engaged in setting up / flashing household appliances for "smart homes", so I thought to bet on them, but Alas, I did not find any contacts on the Internet. I myself am not very versed in all these IT affairs, so if you suddenly have data or phone numbers, please send it off :)
