Database. in choosing a dissertation topic?

I just can’t choose the topic of my thesis, the supervisor suggested studying MySQL query optimization methods and writing something of my own, but it seems to me that this is too difficult for me, because there is a lot of mathematics there, and I’m not good with databases either, I use them only as an application for web programming and maybe I would like something that would apply to databases and be combined with web programming.
Who can advise on this matter? I would really appreciate any ideas.

Your supervisor has suggested a wonderful topic for you. There is a lot of information on it on Habré and in general, in many ways (but not in everything), you can figure it out based on your own logic.

Or you can look in the direction of NoSQL engines, and it is connected with the web

You can write about methods for scaling database servers and how web applications (architecturally) work under heavy load. There is enough material on the Internet, the knowledge gained in the future can be useful.

Alternatively, you can explore the possibilities of using NoSQL databases to implement the capabilities that have traditionally been on the shoulders of MySQL in web programming.
