There was a need to make the effect of crumpling a square sheet of paper on css / js / any suitable technology.

This is the usual behavior of the browser: when you press F5, it repeats the request, including the data that was sent. That is, your POST request is repeated on update. You don't need to unset($_POST['received_image']) , just redirect to the same page or to the home page on success to change the request type from POST to GET.
