Connecting an MTS modem to Keenetic Giga - protocol error

Hello, dear habrazhitel!

1) There is a ZyXEL Keenetic Giga router updated to the latest stable firmware.
2) There is a modem from MTS - ZTE MF 658. It is in the list of modems supported by the router.

So, click "connect". We see: Initialization -> Connection -> Protocol error. Then everything is new.
The router detects the modem, the Internet settings are all in place, there is an authorization method switch (CHAP, PAP, PAP + CHAP) - I tried everything, it does not work.

A couple of times I managed to connect and the pings went away, but as soon as I opened the browser, everything immediately turned off again.

On a computer, the modem works through a standard program.

Did you look in the error log?
Also, can you specify the VID / PID of the modem? You can look at them in the firmware which AT commands the router sends to it, they can be compared with those that the driver sends to it under Windows.

Nov 16 04:02:32 kernel: usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 2
Nov 16 04:02:32 kernel: usb 1-1.2: USB disconnect, address 4

Based on this, I can say that the modem does not have enough power.
Try connecting it via a powered USB hub, it should help.

Try to directly insert the modem into the router, without using a hub or usb extension cable
