Confirmation of registration on the site via e-mail

Do you think it is necessary to confirm registration on the site via e-mail? Or is it enough to send a letter “Thank you for registering, tell us on social networks and get bonuses”?

Answer the question

In order to leave comments, you need to log in

And I would just add buttons "Log in with VKontakte or Facebook"

Do confirmation, but only to make sure that other notifications can be sent to this e-mail.

It seems to me that it depends only on the purpose of registration. If you need to complicate the task of creating duplicate accounts, then it is definitely worth making confirmation by e-mail and, accordingly, making the e-mail unique in the system. Plus confirmation allows you to verify the correctness of the entered address.

Great, thanks everyone! Decided not to confirm.
Solution:
After a simple registration on the site with a captcha (or registration through a social network), a letter is sent to the mail. A person does not need to go to the site, but if he has not registered, then the letter contains a deregistration item.

Making confirmation is a must. For example, I was already sick of various idiots (often female) who indicate my address (maybe the domain is confused, or maybe a typo - who knows) when registering anywhere, and then I have to swear with support, demanding to unsubscribe me from anyone shit. I will definitely explain to the support that only complete assholes register without confirmation.

Complicating registration can scare away potential users. Not everyone wants to remember their complex email, then go, for example, to mail.ru through the web interface, look for a letter there, etc. And many do. I have many such acquaintances. Therefore, if your site is not oriented to IT people, then it is better to try to avoid complicating registration

I do it very simply: When registering, you can not specify an e-mail, but there is a warning that the account cannot be restored without specifying the mail. I do not send confirmation emails for registration. The captcha is worth it.
