Compress proxy + android

Hello. I'm thinking about buying an android phone in the near future, but at the same time I'm a little worried that it needs the Internet in an almost constant mode. At the same time, I have a server on Linux, and it seemed to me that it would be reasonable to use this. I would like to raise a compressing non-caching proxy so that in the mobile connection mode (3g + gprs) in general all traffic passes through it, and in the Wi-Fi connection mode, the traffic goes in the usual way.

Actually, I would like you to share your thoughts on the following questions:
1) How reasonable is this idea, and will it work at all? And does android support proxies for anything and everything, not just regular internet traffic?
2) How and what to raise for these purposes? (squid? anything else)
3) Any other valuable comments

Unfortunately, I will only be able to read the answers for the next 20 minutes, I will see everything else only at 10 o'clock in the evening. Thanks in advance!

I can’t say anything about the relevance of the performance, but opera mini, for example, compresses traffic itself.

Specifically, I won’t tell you about android, but I did this on my phone (Nokia N900)

It depends only on your need to save the extra 20 rubles a month. I got tired quickly, but since you want to, I will share my experience :)
2) How and what to raise for these purposes? (squid? anything else)
Anything your heart desires. Squid, etc. traffic will be reduced only with gzip enabled, and even then not by much. There are also special compression proxies. To be honest, I was looking for a replacement for Opera Mobile, which was not available on the N900 at that time.
First I found Ziproxy and Bfilter, I even wrote an article: vas3k.ru/blog/200/
But a month later I found ompd-proxy - it sends traffic through the opera servers and presses not only the information itself, but also the layout, scripts, etc.: vas3k.ru/blog/203/
Although I don’t know how reasonable this is , because Opera has been available for android for a long time. But I just wanted to share, maybe it will help.
But how to make proxy switching depending on 3G / WiFi depends on android.

Get yourself the cheapest anlim on the Internet for 200 rubles and don't worry.

Here the problem is not only in money but more in speed. For example, when you go to the subway, the page will have time to load through the opera, but not through a regular browser.

And you know, everything depends on the phone itself. There simply are no proxy settings, and in order to somehow make the phone go through a proxy, you need to root the device and install some kind of software, mostly not very suitable. In addition, most of this proxy software is for WiFi connections, which will not make sense for this task.
It's easier to buy a cheap "unlim" - albeit with restrictions, but it works.
